Biographical / Historical

Donation was made by the creator. Date unknown. The bulk of this material deals with performances at the Grand Theatre. The establishment opened as the Grand Opera House in 1888. Later the name was shortened to the Grand. The venue attracted national productions and produced plays, musicals and opera. Ceasing operation in 1921, the building burned in 1922. The general manager and his wife were killed in the fire, the cause of which was never determined. Other material covers the RedPath Chautauqua, the Imperial Theatre and the first American tour of the Stratford-Upon-Avon Players, a Shakespearian theatre company.
