Biographical / Historical
Collection was donated to the Augusta-Richmond County Library by Milledge Galphin Murray on April 29, 2013
The intent of the donor was to provide a collection of letterheads to document historic Augusta businesses and this collection should be examined to see if evidence exists for a business that falls in the date range of this collection.
Closer examination of the collection found that the majority of the invoices were to George R. (G.R.) Lombard (January 1, 1856-April 19, 1929). Lombard was the President and owner of the Lombard Iron Works and Supply Company The company also maintained a Ford automobile dealership. These invoices appear to be related more to other businesses he was associated with; the Augusta Ice Company and the Georgia Construction and Investment Company
The majority of the checks were made to the Clifton Manufacturing Company of Clifton, South Carolina. Checks were issued by a variety of banks, including Augusta banks and businesses.
The business post cards fall into three categories; those thanking customers for their business, reminders of accounts owed, and advertising. The cards are from various businesses
