Biographical / Historical
Robert K. Price (b. Jan. 18, 1913, d. May 27, 1999) was born in Fulton County, Georgia, and died in Fayette County, Georgia. He served as a ship captain in the Navy during in World War II, and was active in Gideons International. After his move to Fayette County in 1950, he helped organize the Fayette County Kiwanis Club, and the Fayette Presbyterian Church in 1957. Other activities were with the Flint River Council of Boy Scouts, and the Peachtree City Kiwanis Club.
With experience as a commercial artist, a printing salesman and a builder, he began the Robert K. Price Co., Inc., in the 1940s. His company was a designer and manufacturer of trade show exhibits, and eventually he located it in Peachtree City. In 1964, he formed Southern Travel Information Services to distribute travel brochures in Georgia. Price retired in 1973, to concentrate on civic work.
As president and general manager of the McIntosh Trail Arts Council, Inc., formed in January 1975, he and vice president Robert W. Bivens obtained federal and state grants to produce the outdoor drama, “The McIntosh Trail.” The project was part of the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration and was the impetus for the construction of the McIntosh Amphitheater (then called “Amphitheatre”), later retitled the Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater (aka the “Fred”) in Peachtree City. The project won at least five awards from the Stay and See America in Georgia organization (these mounted awards are in box 2 of this collection). Once “The McIntosh Trail” production was not renewed for a
second season, Price resigned as president of the McIntosh Trail Arts Council, and although he promised to remain on the board, funding was not forthcoming.
