Boy Scout Troop 181
Scope and Contents
Boy Scout Troop 181 was formed in Peachtree City, Georgia in 1981. It
was chartered by the Peachtree City Kiwanis Club, and met weekly at
Christ our Shepherd Lutheran Church. Jack Elrod was the first
scoutmaster, and he and another father founded the Troop.
Troop 181 was still in existence as of 2024, with scoutmaster Phil Carson,
and committee chair Bill Childers.
This scrapbook, in addition to the title page, has fifty (50) pages, most with color photographs, and about six pages without any data or photos. Almost every page holds a photograph of a Troop member or “leader” on a data page, front and back, in alphabetical order. Almost every member is posed in front of the Troop 181 flag, sometimes held up by others. Pages are interleaved with archival paper. The pages holding the photograph has a form asking for name, age, rank, scout history, merit badges earned/working on, and future merit badge interests, what I learned about scouting, what I plan to do to help my fellow scouts, what I would like to learn from my fellow scouts, and what “being a good Boy Scout”means to me.
Richard Bowerman was the Kiwanis sponsor representative and his photo is on the final page of the scrapbook. “Leader” photographs are of: Mike Baudhuin, Committee Chairperson; Bill Brady, Troop Committee: Advancement; Keiren Brady, Troop Committee Secretary and Historian; Tom Conrad, Assistant Scout Master; Jon Green, Assistant Scoutmaster; David Howlett, Troop Committee Member; Keith Isaac, Assistant Scoutmaster; Kaye Justice, Troop Committee Member; Ed Arkin,
Scoutmaster; Jams Lickliter, Troop Committee Member; David Willoughby, Eagle/Assistant Scoutmaster; and a data page with no photograph for Larry Wells, Assistant Scout Master.Troop Committee members Mari McCoy, Cindi Carson, and RobinBrennison were photographed at the Fall Fling, with another photo ofscout leaders cooking. On the back of that page is a group photograph
taken in front of the Peachtree City Falcon Field Aviation Center, at Aviation Merit Badge Day, March 8, 1997, with a written “thanks to the members of the Experimental Aircraft Association.” There are three separate photographs (with data sheets) of scouts obviously taken at the airport on this day, so the only ones without the Troop flag.
The archivist added a news article (The Citizen March 7, 2006) “Troop 181
Celebrates 25 Years,” which recounts the 25th anniversary banquet event
with special guest Hollis Harris, former Chief Operating Officer of Delta
Airlines. First scoutmaster Jack Elrod remembered the founding of the
Troop. The representative of Boy Scouts of America Flint River Council
presented the Troop with a framed certificate to commemorate the
Anniversary. The banquet included Troop 181’s quarterly Court of Honor,
recognizing scout accomplishments in completion of advancement and
merit badge requirements.
